To create a piece of art, an artist must first have an inspiration. In a commissioned, such as a WWII soldier, the commissioning body usually dictates a set of criteria. The original concept for this piece was to create an accompanying statue for the WWII doughboy that has stood on the “The Five Corners” in Uniontown PA.To create a compatible piece, I photographed and measured the original doughboy. I researched materials from the WWII period and developed an image of which the form would take.
